FAQ

How do I hide my link behind a password?

Nimble Links makes it possible to protect a link behind a password.

To start, navigate to Tools > Password-Protected Link. Then enter your link in the first field, specify a password to protect it in the second field, and click the Create Link button.

This will generate a short link that you can share with your customers or put up on your social pages. When users click on the link, they'll be required to enter a password to access your configured destiantion.

Is it safe to use Password-Protected Links for sensitive information?

We don’t recommend using this feature for private, personal, or sensitive information. The password helps control who gets redirected from the short link to the destination URL. However, once someone enters the correct password, they are taken directly to the destination URL, which they can then copy, bookmark, or share with others.

For example, if you enter https://example.com/hidden as your destination URL to create a Password-Protected Link, we generate a short link like https://nimble.li/a1b2c3. When someone visits https://nimble.li/a1b2c3, they’ll be prompted to enter a password. If the password is correct, they’ll be redirected to https://example.com/hidden, and the full URL will be visible in their browser. From there, they can easily copy, bookmark, or share it with others.

If someone knows https://example.com/hidden, they can bypass Nimble Links altogether by entering the URL directly into their browser. In that case, they’ll access the content without any password protection, as we don’t have control over direct access to the destination URL.

Password-Protected Links work well for sharing with a specific group or for temporary access. They offer a straightforward way to limit access to non-sensitive content, making them useful for casual sharing, internal use, or marketing campaigns where unintended sharing of the destination link is either irrelevant or harmless.

Can I view the password I assigned to a link?

No. To keep passwords secure, we don't store them directly on our systems. Instead, we only keep an irreversible representation of each password (called a hash), which can only be used to determine if someone has entered the right password in the future.

If you've forgotten the password to your link, you can edit the link and update its password.

What happens if I exhaust my click limit?

Once the limit is reached, clicks on your links will be redirected to a page similar to this example.

Paid plans have higher limits. Once the limit is reached on a paid account, all links on that account will redirect to a page similar to this example, without our branding.

Will you ever sell my data?
